FURORE

Furore, locally called Neverland, with its scattered settlement on the flanks of the mountain overlooking the sea, is a small village risen on the steep cliffs of the Fiord, poorly inhabited. Furore is a characteristic town with difficult to access ways and accesses: paths, tracks and stairs which are not visible from the Coastline’s road.

Furore can be split in two sides: the seaside with the fjord (il Fiordo di Furore), a naturalistic beauty which will impress you and the town center with scattered houses on the Coast. The old village lies on the foothills of the Monti Lattari. The landscape has a rugged dolomitic beauty, and from here the sea can be reached walking down a long flight of steps built in the days of the Maritime Republic.
Il borgo dei pescatori (The fishermen’s borough) is a cluster of houses on the lowest part of the cliff by the opening of Furore to sea. The Borgo can be reached going down steps and small stone roads. The Borgo is almost intact as it was originally built, indeed the difficulty to reach it means it has not undergone any substantial changes over the years, and the latest refurbishment carefully respected the original design of the houses. Rossellini and Anna Magnani came to live here around 1948 and filmed a few scenes of L’Amore. The memory of their stay here is very dear for locals who have dedicated a small museum to the couple in the house where they lived for some time.
The Fiord of Furore is surely the most impressive thing about the village, indeed this cut into the mountains runs all the way down from the town of Agerola. The erosion of water onto the mountain has now created an impressive and stunning landscape, very green and fertile yet on a very harsh rocky ground, with unexpected waterfalls and streams that from the mountain run down to the sea. The Fiord has an overhanging arched bridge where the state road 163 runs and where the International Diving Championship is held every year.
Furore is a very suggestive destination, it deserves to be visited. Furore, Neverland on the Amalfi Cost
